Bamboo lyocell and bamboo viscose are both fabrics made from bamboo, but they differ in their manufacturing process, sustainability, and feel:
· Manufacturing process
Bamboo lyocell is made using a closed-loop process that recovers and reuses water and solvent, while viscose is made by dissolving wood into a pulp solution that's then washed, to create fibers.
· Feel
Bamboo viscose is softer and more comfortable than bamboo lyocell. Viscose is also breathable and regulates body temperature, but it can stretch and lose its shape over time.
Here are some other things to know about bamboo lyocell and bamboo viscose:
· Bamboo growth
Bamboo doesn't require fertilizers or pesticides, which reduces eutrophication.
· Bamboo labeling
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has cracked down on bamboo labeling, forcing companies to list “rayon made from bamboo” when items are not natural bamboo.
