At WBC we search for strategies to minimize waste and as close to zero waste as possible. Instead of wrapping products with tissue at the checkout, we purchased 10,000 microfiber cloths so that consumers can reuse over and over instead generating waste with wrapping tissue that is not recycable.
Our New Buffalo store location will never use wrapping tissue to wrap purchases and aim to change the mindset of consumers by making awareness of substituting and using "waste less" products at every opportunity.
Tons of waste is generated from gift wrapping and shopping bags every year and most gift wrapping is made out of hard-to-recycle mixed materials and it goes straight to goes straight to the landfill.
Over the Holidays, our waste volume goes up. Set a goal to wrap most of your gifts or at least 3-5 gifts in upcycled materials. If you want to reduce waste or desire a more sustainable world, do not complain, rather, begin with yourself...Say, "NO" to tissue paper at the retail check out, and every Holiday season, wrap your gifts the "wasteless way" and request that the immediate family members do the same.
